INTRODUCTION
SOUTH INDIA MUSIC COMPANIES’ ASSOCIATION (SIMCA) was set up in 1996. as an Association of Music Producers to look after the common problems faced by the Industry in South India. At the time, as is true today, the specter of piracy was the issue that had to be tackled. The membership of the Association therefore, included those who belonged to THE INDIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY (IMI) and/or PHONOGRAPHIC PERFORMANCE LTD (PPL). SIMCA undertook some spectacular work in anti-piracy action and conducted raids all over the four States. It also represented to the State Governments regarding the need to contain piracy. In its limited way the Association played a leading role in protecting the interests of the Producers of Music in South India.
